Ganso had played for Santos since 2008
Brazilian attacking midfielder Paulo Henrique Ganso has signed a five-year deal with Sao Paulo from league rivals FC Santos for nine million euros ($11.7 million), his new team confirmed on Friday.
French club Paris Saint-Germain and Premier League sides Arsenal and Manchester United had also been interested in signing the player.
But the 22-year-old’s value had dropped dramatically after the London Olympics when he played just twice as a substitute because of injury, as Brazil finished runners-up behind surprise winners Mexico.
“Ganso no longer wanted to wear our jersey and was sold for 23.94 million Brazilian Reals to Sao Paulo,” the selling team added.
Ganso had played for the club since 2008.
