Johannesburg – The ANC Youth League intends proposing the nationalisation of oil, steel and mining companies including Sasol, Kumba Iron-Ore and Arcelor-Mittal.

“As… amplified by the secretary general today, the ANC Youth League has already embarked on a process to identify the mineral wealth to be nationalised,” spokesperson Khusela Sangoni-Khawe said in a statement.

Earlier on Thursday, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe announced at Cosatu’s national congress that nationalisation was back on the agenda.

According to the SABC, Mantashe said the ruling party was identifying strategic assets in the minerals sector for nationalisation.

The ANCYL welcomed Mantashe’s remarks.

“Finally, the ANC has acknowledged what the ANCYL has consistently said… strategic nationalisation of mines,” said Sangoni-Khawe.

The league called on workers to intensify the struggle for the redistribution of the economy and emulate the courage and bravery displayed by mineworkers.
