Mr Samuel Ofosu- Ampofo, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, has said the peace and tranquility that the country is enjoying must be sustained, protected and nutured to ensure development.
He was speaking at a durbar to round off this year’s celebration of Anluwae Kundum Festival of the Chiefs and people of the Lower Dixcove Traditional Area at Dixcove.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said people should be careful that their utterances before, during and after the December elections does not undermine the peace and tranquility.
He said there must be peace in the country for President John Mahama to continue the implementation of the Better Ghana Agenda from where the late President Atta Mills left off.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo urged Pastors to use the pulpit to preach peace and unity instead of indulging in politics.
He said good governance and unity are essential for the country’s development and these would enable the people to know that they are one people with a common destiny.
He said the Fish Landing Beach and the sea defence wall projects at Dixcove will come off as planned and the government is keen on eliminating schools under trees in the Ahanta West as in other parts of the country.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said the Vice President has donated GHȼ 2,500 towards the ICT project of Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX, Omanhene of the traditional area and this is besides his personal donation of five computers and accessories towards the project.
Mr Samuel Jonfiah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahanta West, expressed concern about high cost of funerals and called for the passage of a bye-law to check this.
He said the Dixcove Hospital would soon have an ambulance and will provide Upper Primary and Junior High School pupils with mathematical sets.
Nana Agyeman said Kundum is used to settle family disputes and conflicts, welcome new members into the family and to celebrate success made in the year.
He appeal to government to tar the Sankor-Cape Three Points road adding that the expansion of plantation farms in the district is seriously affecting food security in the area.
Nana Agyeman was happy that government has set up a committee made up of personnel from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ghana Rubber Estates Limited and other institutions to look into the matter and make recommendations.
He commended the Ghana Health Service (GHS) for the good work it is doing in the district.
