Tanzania: Shein Holds Bilateral Talks With New Indian Envoy

Zanzibar — ZANZIBAR President Dr Ali Mohamed Shein and the new India ambassador in the country, Debnath Shaw, held discussions on Thursday at the isles State House, where the diplomat went to introduce himself, with regards to strengthening bilateral relations.

According to the State House Press Officer, Mr Rajab Mkasaba, talks focused on areas including education, health and improving Information Technology, particularly India’s support on the e-Government system.

“Zanzibar will soon meet India’s embassy in hunt for support in developing some roads in Pemba Island, sewerage and sanitation management, health services and plans to revive free economic zones,” Shein said.

On his part, Mr Shaw thanked the current Zanzibar Government of National Unity (GNU) in its efforts of using the political stability to focus on social and economic development.

“India will continue supporting Zanzibar development, including capacity building, for civil servants for efficiency and respond positively to Zanzibar’s request for support in improving some roads, sewerage management, health and the ‘Free Economic Zones,” Mr Shaw promised.
