Tunisia: Rugby: Kenyans Thrash Tunisia

Kenya thrashed Tunisia 22-10 in the Confederation of African Rugby under 19 tournament in Harare over the weekend. The win ensures Kenya stay in the top tier of the tournament for another year while Tunisia are relegated. Kenya lost their opening fixture 13 -10 to hosts Zimbabwe and were humiliated 39-11 by Namibia.

Robert Aringo scored two tries for the Kenyans with Billy Odhiambo scoring a try. Martin Muita kicked over two conversions and a penalty to give Kenya victory. Kenya led 10-3 at halftime Coach Paul Murunga was satisfied with the win after the two losses and promised to come back a stronger side next year.

“The boys played well and executed well in the forwards and combined well with the forwards and did well for the win,” Murunga added. He said the team has learnt lessons from the tournament and will be hoping to win the event next year. “We must start our preparations early and be dominant at the breakdown and reduce our errors”he said.

Elsewhere Kenya Commercial Bank(KCB) thrashed Nakuru RFC 36-0 in the main cup final of the Prinsloo Sevens at the Nakuru Athletic Club. The bankers were too strong for the hosts in the one sided final. Oliver Mang’eni put KCB ahead with an unconverted try before Darwin Mukidza grounded with Edwin Salamba converting to make it 12-0.

Mukidza struck again as KCB led 17-0 at the break. Dennis Mwanja scored on resumption before Ian Indimuli extended KCB’s lead with Collins Kimani converting for a 29-0 lead. Francis Mwita, barely minutes old on the pitch scored the match’s final try. Kimani converted for the 36-0 result.
