Morocco miss out on Olympics quarters slot

Morocco are out of the 2012 London Olympics men’s football tournament

Morocco exited the 2012 Olympic Games men’s football tournament after drawing 0-0 with Spain in their final Group D match at Old Trafford.

T
he North Africans needed a win and prayed all other results went their way to stand of chance of advancing to the last eight.

Morocco were impressive during the early exchanges and after ten minutes Noureddine Amrabat attempted to score from a free-kick from distance but went wide.
Before the half-hour mark, the north Africans created their best opportunity of the opening period.
A swift counter-attack provided space down their right wing and when the ball was delivered into the Spanish penalty box, Abdelaziz Barrada was waiting at the back post.
But the Getafe midfielder dragged his shot wide of De Gea’s goal. .
Spain should have gone up through Adrian who found himself one-on-one with Morocco ‘keeper Mohamed Amsif after 69 minutes.
But the striker inexplicably sent a tame effort dribbling away from the target.
Adrian had the last chance of the game but this time his shot was saved well by Amsif.

The result meant Morocco had to settle for third place behind Japan and Honduras.
