‘Essien is not done yet’ – Peter Schmeichel

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel believes Ghana midfielder Michael Essien still has a lot to offer despite the lack of first team start at his club Chelsea.

Michael Essien is yet to start a premier league game this season under manager Roberto Di Mateo since returning from a lengthy injury layoff.

The 29 year old who has now lost his position in Chelsea’s starting lineup and the presence of several new midfield signings means the former Liberty Professionals player has work to do to return to the top.

But Peter Schmeichel who is now an international ambassador for Manchester United explains Essien has a lot of football left in him to make it at any top European club.

“You have to remember Essien has been very instrumental in what Chelsea have achieved over the years but he has had some injuries,” Schmeichel m said upon arrival. The former Manchester United and Denmark first choice goalie is in Ghana to launch Manchester United’s partnership with telecommunication giant and Ghana Premier league headline sponsor Globacom.

“And what happens when you get injuries is someone else comes in and they do well and this is what happens now and then. I think most managers in England, most managers in World football will be very happy to have someone like Michael Essien”.
