Zambia Consider Venue Change For Zim Friendly

High rental fees might force Zambia to move their August 8 friendly against Zimbabwe from Ndola Stadium.

Football Association of Zambia communications officer Erick Mwanza said on Wednesday that rates offered by the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium management were not economical for the friendly to be staged there.

“This (friendly) is not an A international match and when a match is not an A international it means the commercial value or viability of that game is much lower. It is reduced,” Mwanza said.

“If by any means we look at the cost of hire for the stadium that it will not make economic sense for us, then we shift the venue.”

Sources have said the venue managers are asking for a figure in the area of US$40,000 for the August 8 friendly.

“I’m reluctant to comment on the figures right now because they are still at administrative process,” Mwanza said.

Meanwhile, a home-based Zambia team called-up for the friendly goes into camp in Ndola on August 5.

The match will be Zambia’s second official match at Levy Stadium after hosting Ghana there on June 9 in a 2014 World Cup qualifier.
