Pay attention to women; Upper West women tell Mahama

Women groups in the Upper West Region have lauded the smooth transition of power from president Mills to president Mahama without a hitch.

They have therefore congratulated John Dramani Mahama on his assumption to the throne as the National Chief Executive of the country and called on him to pay prior attention to the activities of women in the country.

They made the call when they called on the Upper West Regional Minister, Ambassador Amin Amidu Sulemani at his office in Wa.

The women most of whom were clad in black long gowns and draped in red mufflers said women forms over 51.1% of the country’s population and they expect a lot from president Mahama to better their lots because they belong to the vulnerable group.

The women led by the Upper West Regional Director of the department of women, Madam Kate bob Miller said they wish to add their voice also to the many voices in expressing their heartfelt sympathies to the government on the demise of president John Evans Atta Mills.

They requested the regional minister to send their condolences to the immediate family of the late president more especially to Dr. Mrs. Naadu Mills for the irreplaceable loss of her husband.

‘‘Death has not only robbed her but the whole nation at large of gem. Hon. Regional Minister, we wish to assure that she is not alone in this grief. We are spiritually and physically with her in all her sorrows and we deeply share all the heartaches at this turbulent period of her life.

Do not throw your hands in despair. Mama, draw your tears and all shall be well,’’ the women added.

The concluded by calling on Ghanaians to sustain the current unity and maintain peace before, during and after the December general elections.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Ambassador Amin Amidu Sulemani thanked the women for their concern saying the government will continue to recognize the important role women play in our society.

‘‘Certainly no body will ignore that you are in the majority. What is due you naturally government will ensure that you get your due share as our mothers of our land,’’ the Minister said.
