Carragher keen to impress Rodgers

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher says he is aiming to impress Brendan Rodgers and also learn from the new manager.

The 39-year-old replaced the sacked Kenny Dalglish in June and is currently preparing his new club for the upcoming campaign, starting with a pre-season tour of North America.

Despite being 34 years of age, Carragher says he is enjoying the change and looking forward to giving his best in the coming weeks to show the manger what he is still capable of.

“I can only speak for myself in terms of the training sessions but they’ve been very enjoyable and we are working really hard,” Carragher told the club’s official website.

“You want to impress the manager and show him you are a good player and that you deserve to be in his team or in his plans. You’ve always got to try and prove yourself.

“Whenever a new manager comes in there’s always something slightly different, and because it’s fresh and new, people seem to take to it.

“I get on well with Rodgers. He’s come here and really settled well. Everyone has their own ideas and ways of doing things and this manager is no different.”

The veteran defender also believes it’s never too late to learn new tricks, and says he is hoping to gain as much knowledge as he can from the new manager who is a few years his senior.

“Even as a player my age, you can learn certain things,” said Carragher, “In the last few weeks I’ve picked up different things off the manager.”
