One out of three suspected armed robbers who specialize in snatching people’s vehicles at gun point within the Accra and Tema area has been grabbed by the Accra Regional Police Command.

The suspect, Daniel Kode aka Worawora, 33, also an ex-convict, was arrested at a snap check point at Oyibi by a police patrol team. Two of his accomplices whose names have been withheld managed to escape police arrest.

A search conducted on him led to the discovery of a revolver pistol with registration number KH 026708. Briefing the media in Accra, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Patrick Eden Timbillah, said on June 8, 2012, around 11:30pm, the three suspected armed robbers hired an Opel saloon taxi cab with registration number GT 660W from Ghacem, Tema, to Oyibi.

When the taxi got to the police check point near Oyibi, policemen on duty flagged the driver to stop. “Knowing who they were, the suspects got down from the vehicle and took to their heels,” he said. The police gave them a hot chase but luck eluded Daniel Kode, who was captured.

When thoroughly searched, police discovered a revolver pistol concealed in his back pocket. Later investigations revealed that the three were part of a car syndicate that specialized in snatching vehicles from the owners at gun point.

The investigations revealed that the suspects had hired the taxi with the aim of snatching it from the driver on the way.

Daily Guide’s checks also revealed that the suspect, Daniel Kode, was an ex-convict who had served seven years’ imprisonment on a robbery-related case.

Suspect Daniel Kode is currently in police custody assisting in police investigations. The two other accomplices who bolted will be fished out for trial. In a related development, police have discovered a Toyota Matrix vehicle with registration number GT 7626Y believed to have been snatched from its owner.

The vehicle, according to DCOP Timbillah, was snatched at gun point from its owner at Ashaiman.

Information received also revealed that the gang attacked the victim at Ashaiman at gunpoint on June 8, 2012 around 10:50pm, robbed him of an amount of GH¢12,000 before escaping with the vehicle.

Police patrol spotted the vehicle on the same day on the Oyibi road, coming from Dodowa.

Upon seeing the police approaching them, the suspects abandoned the vehicle on the road and fled into a nearby bush with their booty. They were pursued in the bush amidst firing of gunshots but police could not capture them.

When the vehicle was searched, police found a pistol magazine, two ammunitions and a hand bag containing documents suspected to belong to the victim. The vehicle has been towed to the Accra Regional Police Command for investigations.
