A biker arrested on Tuesday for speeding on the R21 claimed he was on his way to comfort his girlfriend after her horse died, Gauteng traffic police said.

“The 21-year-old apprentice electrician from Pretoria was travelling with his silver Honda VFR at an average speed of 208km/h in a 120km/h zone when we caught him,” police high speed unit spokeswoman Bushapi Nxumalu said.

The electrician claimed his girlfriend’s horse had died and he was on his way to Pretoria to support her. He would face charges of reckless or negligent driving with an alternative charge of exceeding the speed limit.

He was expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

“An inquiry will be done in order to determine suspension of his driving licence.” – Sapa
