FA backs PLS on hiring Brand Manager

MTN Premier League of Swaziland 2011/12

National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa has backed the decision by the PLS to hire a Brand Manager.

Mthethwa’s speech was read by the FA First Vice President Timothy Shongwe, who further dismissed that there was a rift between the two bodies.

“Maybe let me take this opportunity to thank the PLS for the way they improved football. We fully support their decision to hire a Brand and Marketing Manager because that would even make them stronger,” he said.

Meanwhile, he challenged Manzini Sundowns to defend the Swazi Telecom Charity Cup. The ambitious Manzini-based outfit beat Manzini Wanderers in the final last year to snatch the trophy.

Speaking during the launch of the 11th edition of the tournament styled ‘Itak’seta’ at the Happy Resort and Casino on Thursday night, Mthethwa urged the side to come through the voting process.

The soft-spoken football administrator was represented by NFAS First Second Vice-President Timothy Shongwe. The former is currently away in Malawi officiating in a World Cup Qualifier.

“Sundowns have the challenge to defend the cup in its new element. They have to cross the voting puzzle,” he said.

In his address, Mthethwa urged all clubs to embrace the voting process to help the needy, who benefit from the proceeds of the tournament.

“We implore all fans to ensure their clubs do make the top six. Tensions will surely be multiplied,” he said.

Mthethwa eventually thanked the sponsors Swaziland Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (SPTC) for the continued support of local football. The champions will walk away with a whopping E600 000.

“SPTC, at this point have now realised and can attest to the fact that football is the vehicle for corporate social investment and their everyday business objectives,” he said.

Mthethwa also encouraged people to lend a helping hand in the community projects which are a highlight of the prestigious tournament.
