Sevilla aiming to shop wisely

La Liga

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido says the club will only buy players who will add value to the squad and not just names.

The 54-year-old confirmed that a number of changes would be made following a below par campaign where they finished ninth on the La Liga table.

“We need to recruit men, not names. We will not make signings we cannot afford,” Del Nido told SFCRadio.

“The squad will look different next season because some players will leave and there will be new additions.

“We will try to add players with experience who will add character to the squad.”

Del Nido was questioned by fans regarding the decision to retain the services of Michel Gonzalez who is considered a failure by the majority of the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan faithful who were calling for former coach Joaquin Caparros.

“Caparros will return home someday but the decision to keep Michel shows our maturity and it is the right one for the club at this present moment,” he said.
