Man Cuts Off Penis

Knife

A man at Nkawie Kuben in the Ashanti Region, believed to be about 20 years old, yesterday cut off his penis for no apparent reason.

Kwadwo Obeng, a sliding door apprentice at Krofrom, a suburb of Kumasi, cut off his manhood in the full glare of other inhabitants of his house around 7am.

Obeng is currently in coma after bleeding profusely, and he is on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH.)

The victim, bearing a sharp knife, before cutting off his penis, had threatened to stab himself if anyone dared stop him.

Inhabitants of the hitherto peaceful home who were terrified by the spectacle initially pleaded with Obeng not to do himself any harm.

The sliding door apprentice who was bent on ending his life however went ahead with his threat by cutting off his penis instead in an open place.

A brother of the victim’s, Kwame Ntim, confirming the report on Kessben FM, a Kumasi-based radio station, said inhabitants of the house were preparing for work when the incident occurred.

Ntim claimed he saw Obeng holding a kitchen knife, yelling that he wanted to end his life.

Alarmed by the victim’s threat, those at the scene tried snatching the knife from him.

But Ntim noted that anytime that they tried getting near him, he raised the knife in an attempt to stab himself.

The people around pleaded with him to stop but to no avail.

Ntim then raced to another house in the area to call one of their uncles to intervene.

Ntim said he was returning to the house with his uncle when he heard people at the scene wailing that Obeng had killed himself.

When they entered the house, they saw Obeng bleeding, with what was left of his sex organ lying beside him, amidst wailings by the people around.

He said his uncle rushed towards Obeng and snatched the knife from him before he could do more damage to himself.

He noted that Obeng, who was bleeding profusely, collapsed minutes later and he was rushed to the Nkawie Hospital with the severed penis.

Ntim noted that the Nkawie Hospital, after observing Obeng, whose condition was critical, referred him to KATH in Kumasi.

Ntim expressed surprise at his brother’s shocking behaviour, disclosing that the victim was a good man until this incident.

Ntim said, “Obeng does not smoke ‘Indian hemp’ neither does he drink alcohol” so he could still not understand what influenced him to undertake that unorthodox surgery.

He also stated that Obeng was not into any amorous relationship with any lady.

Meanwhile, checks at KATH by DAILY GUIDE as at Monday afternoon indicated that the victim was still in coma and doctors were working around the clock to resuscitate him.
