Osunwa goal can’t stop Mazembe

Kelechi Osunwa’s goal for Sudan’s Al Merriekh could not stop TP Mazembe from advancing to the group phase of the CAF Champions League.

Four-time African champions Mazembe played out a 1-1 draw in Khartoum Saturday night.

Mazembe advanced 3-1 on aggregate after winning 2-0 in the first leg played in Lubumbashi a fortnight ago to qualify to the group stage phase of the competition, which kicks off in July.

Osunwa scored for Al Merreikh, while Tresor Mputu broke the hearts of the home fans with his second goal in as many games against the Sudanese league champions.

Al Merreikh striker Jonas Sakuwaha told MTNFootball.com the team are hoping for better fortunes in the CAF Confederation Cup in which they join at the last 16 phase next month.

“It was a tough game although we played very well but TP defended well,” Sakuwaha said.
