Falconets closer 2012 World Cup

Orji on target

Nigeria female team are a foot into the FIFA U20 World Cup in Japan after a 4-0 spanking of DR Congo in a first leg qualifier.

In the match played Saturday in Abeokuta, the host team led 1-0 by half time courtesy of a 36th minute goal by skipper Gloria Ofoegbu.

Francisca Ordega doubled Nigeria’s advantage, before Ebere Orji made it 3-0 on 79 minutes.

Desire Oparanozie fluffed several chances, before Skipper Ofoegbu completed the trouncing four minutes from time to make the return leg match an uphill task for the Congolese in a fortnight.

Ofoegbu dedicated her brace to Nigeria all-time top scorer Rashidi Yekini, who passed on Friday.

The overall winners of this match-up will qualify for the 2012 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Japan.

Nigeria made history two years ago when they reached the final of the global tournament in Germany.
