Foreign pros to join 17 Eagles in Lima

The five foreign based players named by Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, will not train with the team in Abuja, the Federal Capital, but will link up with the squad directly in Lima, the Peruvian capital.

The players are Nnamdi Oduamadi, Gege Soriola, Obiorah Nwankwo, Raheem Lawal and Ekhigo Ehiosun.

Super Eagles spokesman, Ben Alaiya, quotes Keshi, as saying that the players were given that liberty because most of them are still involved in club activities. “Some of them are in play-off games, some have difficult promotion or relegation games to play and they won’t finish the games until the middle of the month, so we have to respect them and the clubs that pay their bills”.

There was a slight hint that Ehiosun of Turkish side, Samsunsport, may make it to Abuja, but team officials are not banking on that and have asked all the players to report straight to Lima for the May 23 friendly.

Indications also emerged that of the 26 home based stars that will resume camping on Sunday in Abuja, the technical crew will pick 17 of them to join the 5 foreign based players that have been picked for the friendly. NFF officials have already firmed up the travel plans of the team, scheduled to depart the country on May 19.
