Just as everything between Gemma Collins and her troubled boyfriend Charlie seemed to be sorting themselves out, a huge bombshell was dropped.
The 31-year-old was revealed as being the secret text mate of bad boy Ricky Rayment, on tonight’s episode of The Only Way Is Essex.
Viewers were left shocked as the episode reached its climax and the former car sales woman was revealed as the phantom texter.

While it became evident that most of the cast on the reality TV show knew her identity, her long suffering boyfriend is one person who won’t be left with a smiley face.
The episode began with sisters Sam and Billie discussing the fact that they knew who had been texting Ricky, and they felt it was unfair to his current conquest Jessica Wright.
When discussing Gemma’s fashion show party, Sam, 21, said: ‘It’s gonna be awkward tonight if Rickie is there.

‘I think I should tell Jessica because you know they have been texting a lot.’
Sam initially threw viewers with her comments about the situation and left people assuming that it was in fact her who had been texting Rayment.
She said: ‘I think that Ricky should calm down a bit because he has come on the scene and is being a bit of a player and that, but he isn’t.’

Later in the episode Lydia Bright and Billie spoke about the tension at the party and they both revealed that they knew about the SMS action.
Billie said: ‘I don’t think Jess knows. I’ve seen the text messages and they said something about ‘I’ve got a bit of a wild side”.
‘And well I’ve seen something to do with badgers. Maybe its like badger in a hole or something’.
Lydia, who had already seen the messages on Ricky’s phone last week, said: ‘Secrets never stay secret do they.’

With seemingly the whole cast in the know, Sam confronted Ricky and gave him an ultimatum.
She said: ‘You are a big flirt and you have replied to the messages.
‘You have seriously got to say something because everyone’s talking about it. If you don’t say something I will.’

While Ricky denied leading Gemma on or replying to any of her flirty texts, he did say that he would sort it out right away.
He marched through the party looking for the curvy blonde and once he had found her, he let rip.
‘You know I’ve been seeing Jess, she’s one of your friends, everyone’s been talking about it.
‘So I just want it to end now ok. So that’s it,’ he said, as the camera panned round to reveal Gemma standing there looking slightly upset.

Fans of the show rushed to Twitter to explain how surprised they were by the storyline but many of them believed the whole thing was fake.
One person said: ‘We know what’s gonna happen on towie now, charlies gonna turn round to Gemma and be like well I’ve been cheating on you with bobby blablabla’.
While another user said: ‘think that the producers of Towie have made up this whole Gemma & Charlie relationship & now textin Ricky?! I love Towie but this is crazy!’
