ABEOKUTA – AN eight-man armed robbery gang, yesterday, engaged a team of the Ogun State Police Command Anti-Robbery Squad in a gun duel during a failed attempt to rob a new generation bank in Abeokuta, the state capital.

However, at the end of the  10 minutes’ shoot-out, the gunmen fled the scene, leaving their house-breaking tools behind.

Although no arrest was made, spokesman for the command, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, attributed the feat to the newly-acquired Armoured Personnel Carriers and Hilux vans.

He  said a concerned member of the public alerted the police on the moves by the robbers, consequent upon which an APC stationed around Ibara was moved to the scene.

Recovered at the end of the gun duel, were chisel, hammer, cylinders and other house-breaking implements.
