Bright Amo-Addo
A POLITICAL reporter of the Daily Searchlight newspaper, Bright Amo-Addo last Sunday had a portion of his thumb chopped off by irate activists of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Fadama in Accra.
The incident occurred around 5pm when the reporter, 25, went there on official duties. He was beaten mercilessly with sticks and knives by the NDC gang and his left thumb chopped off with a cutlass.
Narrating the incident to DAILY GUIDE, Mr. Amo-Addo said he had information that some NDC members had bussed young men and women below 18 years to the Okaikoi North constituency to register.
He noted that when he got there, he saw the people in the bus and had a chat with some of them. They confessed that they were not residents in the constituency and were not even 18 years old.
After he finished interviewing them Mr. Amo-Addo said he had information that some NDC supporters, clutching cutlasses, rods and knives were destroying the billboards of NPP parliamentary candidate for Okaikoi North, Patrick Yaw Boamah.
Mr. Amo-Addo said when he asked why they were destroying the billboards; he was told they were not happy that the police had arrested some minors bussed to the constituency by some NDC executives to register.
According to him, when he got to the scene where the destruction was taking place, he took out his camera to take a shot.
“As soon as I snapped them, they attacked me and beat me with sticks and rods. Others used the back of the cutlasses they were holding to hit me and a member of the gang used his cutlass to cut off my left thumb,” he said.
Mr. Amo-Addo said some unknown people came to his rescue and took him to the Tesano Police Station.
The gang arrived at the station a few minutes later in a pick-up vehicle to look for him.
He said he was sneaked out of the police station in order to avoid chaos and taken to the hospital to receive treatment.
