Man arraigned for shielding a suspect

The Police on Tuesday arraigned a 40-year old man, Sunday Andrew, before an Upper Area Court, Gwagwalada for allegedly shielding an offender from arrest.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Modupe Musa, told the court that the accused had on March 27 failed to produce a suspect, Mrs Lola Aideloje, who was arraigned on March 1.

The accused, however, denied the charge.

His counsel, Mr Mustahpa Omokide, said his client was detained on March 27 when he visited a police station to discuss the state of health of the accused.

He said Aideloje was then on admission at the Specialist Hospital, Gwagwalada, having given birth through caesarian operation.

The counsel said the Federal High Court Gwagwalada had on March 6, restrained the Inspector-General of Police, Commissioner of Police FCT, Corporal Gabriel and Glory Teki from further arresting Mrs Aideloje.

He added that the order was obtained by Mr Promise Mbani, lawyer to Aideloje .

Omokide, however, urged the court to grant his client bail pending the determination of the case.

The judge, Mr Babangida Hassan, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in like sum who must be a resident of the FCT.

Hassan said the residential address of the surety should be known by the prosecution and adjourned the case to May 7 for further hearing. (NAN)
