Milan face Lecce test

AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri gestures on the touchline

A suspension hit Lecce will travel to the fashion capital of the world to take on Milan as they hope to salvage some points in order to help out with their relegation battle.

The match between the Salentini and the Diavoli will take place on Sunday at 16h00, with the San Siro being the host stadium.

Sunday’s match will be a battle of north versus south and top of the table versus bottom of the table; therefore, making the Serie A minnows no pushovers for Massimiliano Allegri’s men.

After receiving a reality check from Arsenal in the midweek, the fans will be hoping that Milan had learnt the lesson of ‘nothing can be taken for granted’, and the same applies for when they meet a resurgent Serse Cosmi side.

However, the southerners have been hit with a tremendous amount of suspensions for the up and coming game as Serse Cosmi will have to watch from the comfort of couch, while David Di Michele, Nenad Tomovic and Gennaro Delvecchio will all be serving their suspension.

In addition, further blows to the set-up come in the shape of Davide Brivio and Juan Cuadrado, with flu and injury ruling them out respectively.

Should he not overcome his fever in time, former Milan player Massimo Oddo, is set to take the place of Brivio.

While Serse Cosmi will be ruing his luck, Allegri can finally rejoice as his mass injury troubles seem to be improving.

Maxi Lopez will return to action, while Gennaro Gattuso could eventually be given the all clear to play after suffering a paralysis in his left eye.

Clarence Seedorf, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Alessandro Nesta all look to be on the mend, but it remain unlikely that they will be risked for Sunday’s game.

Philippe Mexes will also be serving his second of his three match ban on Sunday.

Despite having to travel with a depleted side, Lecce will not buckle under the minnows tag as they have shocked Milan once before this season and they will be hoping to do so again.

The first leg saw Giallorossi go 3-0 up against Milan at half-time, but a Boateng sub during the break was enough for him to seal a 10 minute hat-trick before Mario Yepes broke the deadlock in the final minutes of the game.

There should be no underestimating their adversaries on Sunday as a win will be crucial to maintain the gap over Juventus.
