Akintola Williams Deloitte, a financial services body in Nigeria, has charged organisations, governments and women’s groups on the need to encourage and empower career women to bring out the best in them.

Speaking at a one-day empowerment seminar to commemorate the 2012  International Women’s Day, organised by Deloitte to celebrate and appreciate its female employees, the Associate Director, Clients and Marketing of the organisation, Mrs Eme Agha, stressed the need to encourage women to do more in their various professional careers.

She said the annual event was initiated to celebrate, appreciate and empower Deloitte women to be successful not only in their career but in their homes.

According to her, Deloitte recognizes the vital roles its female employees play in the growth and development of the company, hence the need to honour and appreciate them.

The seminar with the theme: “Empower, Invest, Accelerate: Encouraging Women to do More”, witnessed a large turn out of both junior and senior female staff of the company.

Professional career women who have made it to the top not only in their various professional careers but also in their homes were invited to talk to and share their experiences with the participants.

The guest speakers include; Mrs Ifeoma Williams, a lawyer and motivational speaker; Mrs Ibidunmi Ituah-Ighodalo, founder/CEO of Elizaberth R; Mrs Fola Laoye, an alumnus of Harvard Business School; and Mrs Maria Idigo, a medical doctor.

International Women’s Day is celebrated March 8 of every year. It is a day set aside by the United Nations to honour and recognized women; and to review past struggles, efforts and accomplishments of women world over with a view to discovering the untapped potentials and opportunities that await future generations of women.
