Nemanja Matic believes that Benfica are a bigger club than Chelsea, and is hopeful that the Lisbon outfit can record a positive result in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie on Tuesday.
The Serbia international joined Benfica from Chelsea in the summer of 2011, and does not regret his move to the Portuguese giants.
“When I arrived here I had already heard that Benfica was a big club but I never thought it was anything like this,” Matic said to Chelsea TV.
“It’s unbelievable, I have never seen anything like it. Chelsea are also a great club, with many fans, but I think Benfica are bigger.
“It will be difficult for them to play here, but Chelsea players are more used to playing in the Champions League as they are often involved. We will do everything to go through.”
Tuesday’s match at the Estadio da Luz kicks off at 20.45 CET.
