Johannesburg – A man was injured when a building collapsed in downtown Johannesburg on Wednesday, the city said.
“An adult male has been taken to the Hillbrow Hospital,” city spokesperson Niel Rooi said.
“He was outside the building and some of the debris fell on him.”
The building was situated on the corner of Jeppe and End streets.
Rooi said a fire had ripped through the building in February and people were stealing the steel support beams from the structure, which may have caused the collapse. An investigation was due to start on Thursday.
Rescuers would search for more injured people, he said.
