Multimedia sets the records straight on Government’s accusation of bias (Updated)

The Multimedia Group Limited has denied accusations of bias by the Government of Ghana.

The Government on Tuesday announced it will no longer feature on the various media platforms and affiliates of the MGL.

A deputy Information Minister James Agyenim Boateng told various radio stations the action was in protest of unfair reportage against the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He cited a recent incident when supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party, (NPP) picketed at the precincts of Asempa FM, a member of the MGL and threatened to march on the station for alleged insulting comments by a panelist and a subsequent dismissal of an NPP representative from the programme as an instance of such bias. On that occasion, he said the company, particularly its flagship brand, Joy FM, failed to report the said incident.

Consequently, Mr. Agyenim Boateng says the government will not be granting interviews to the Multimedia platforms.

However, the MGL said the said incident was duly reported on its networks, citing Joy FM which flagged it as the only issue on its Top Story programme of February 22, 2012, hosted by Evans Mensah. The same incident was reported on www.myjoyonline.com.
