Manchester United’s Jonny Evans says pressure is on Manchester City to get result against Chelsea

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans says that the pressure is now on Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

City face the visit of in-form Chelsea on Wednesday to the Etihad with a gap of four points between them and neighbours United to make up, after Sir Alex Ferguson’s side’s 5-0 win away at Wolves on Sunday.

And the defender, who has been winning many plaudits for his recent performances in the heart of the United defence and scored his first goal for the club at Molineux on Sunday, believes Roberto Di Matteo’s men will prove a difficult proposition.

Northern Ireland international Evans told The Guardian: “Wednesday is a massive game.

“We have done our job and that does put pressure on City.

“Chelsea have had a couple of good victories so maybe their spirits will be up a little bit and they will go into Wednesday’s game in pretty confident mood.

“The goal difference is a massive consideration.

“If you look ahead to the end of the season, the last thing you want to do is lose the league on goal difference.

“It is almost like another point at times and it would be a horrible way to lose the league if that was the case, so it is up to us to rectify it.”
