Volta Minister Heads For Castle?

Information reaching the Daily Guide newspaper indicates the days of Volta Regional Minister, Joseph Amenowode are numbered as he will be booted out of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) and residency soon.

According to a source close to the castle, Mr. Amenowode’s proposed removal from office comes as a result of what the source describes as agitations and complaints against him by footsoldiers, chiefs and party bigwigs in the region.

This move the source noted is part of a second reshuffling exercise which will hit some ministers and government appointees who escaped January’s reshuffle. The source added it had come to the notice of the presidency that the regional minister’s action and inactions have made the ruling NDC party unpopular in the area and created disunity, bickering and infighting among the party hierarchy there. The Minister is also said to have had relations with the chiefs and traditional leaders in the region.

His relationship with the media is also said to be on the downside. Mr. Amenowode is accused of not properly marshalling the various districts to tell the NDC story in the region thereby causing too many agitations, demonstrations and petitions from the youth, women, chiefs and people in the area.

Fortunately for Mr. Amenowode he will be compensated with a post at the castle as Minister of State at the Presidency. Henry Ford Kamel, MP for Buem and currently the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources will replace him as Volta Regional minister according to reports. Since the beginning of last year, the ruling NDC had had to deal with a number of dramatic, chaotic and quite unusual uprisings from the Volta region which it refers to as its world bank. Chiefs have complained bitterly about how some MPs in the region have maltreated them, how the VRCC has disrespected them and how the President has incessantly postponed his tour of the region.

Foot soldiers have on several occasions also complained about neglect. For the first time in along time there have been a lot of demonstrations and processions against the party and in some cases against the regional minister as well as municipal and district chief executives. All these have happened during the tenure of Mr. Amenowode who is also MP for Hohoe South.
