Uganda: Tabula Strikes Late to Halt Eagles’ Surge
Former Uganda Cranes star Abubaker Tabula scored the only goal as Proline beat Express 1-0 yesterday to swing the Bell Super League title in favour of URA and perhaps Bunnamwaya.
That scrambled effort six minutes from time at Nakivubo lifted Proline to sixth on 24 points as the Red Eagles missed the chance to assume the summit. URA lead with 31 points, one more than second-placed Express 2009 champions Bunnamwaya keeping an eye closely in third.
Tabula pounced on a loose ball to give coach Abdullah Mubiru a deserved second successive victory.
At Namboole, Joseph Ochaya tucked away a penalty in the fifth for KCC to defeat Police 1-0 and move one place to seventh on 23 points.
In Jinja, a late penalty from Eric Ssebuguzi salvaged a 1-all draw for hosts Victors against Water.
Joseph Bukenya had given the visitors the lead on 25 minutes with a well taken half volley from the edge of the six yard box against run of play
In the Bell Uganda Cup, Moses Feni’s goal booked URA a last 16 berth as they beat St. Mary’s Kazo at Makerere. There, the league champions were joined by Maroons, 3-0 victors over lower division Entebbe Young, and Boroboro Tigers, who beat Bidco 1-0 in Lira.
