Sudan: Five Arrested in North Darfur

Um Kadada — Security authorities arrested five citizens from the city of Um Kadada in North Darfur on Sunday.

A relative of one of the detainees told Radio Dabanga ‘security services launched a crackdown on a number of known people in the region starting at 9:00 a.m. ending two hours later.’

Three retired teachers named as Muhammed Adam Jadeed, Abdullah Mahmoud Muhammed and Adam Fadil Murdi were detained along with a merchant called Amer Salih Mahdi, and Muhammed Abdel Hadi Mahmoud working as a translator for the joint UN/African Union Mission in Darfur.

The witness said some were arrested at their homes while others were detained in public places. All of the detainees have been deported to El Fasher.

He expressed his fear of the detainees being subjected to ill treatment or torture and called on authorities to release the citizens, or take them to court.
