Southern Africa: SA Hosts SADC Meetings

Pretoria — The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Double Troika is this weekend meeting in Cape Town to discuss political and economic matters.

Also taking place are Extraordinary Inter-State Politics and Diplomacy Ministerial Meetings.

The SADC meetings take place within the context of contributing to regional efforts in addressing current politico-economic situations in the region.

Accordingly, South Africa continues to lead in the implementation of the SADC peace and security mechanisms in line with the Strategic Indicative Plan of the Organ (SIPO).

The SADC Ministerial Committee of the Organ (MCO) Troika is attended by South Africa as Chair and Zambia, Tanzania, Angola, Namibia and Mozambique.

The meetings are scheduled to discuss the political and economic situation in the region, review the outcomes of the African Union Summit and summit decision on the establishment of a Committee of Heads of State and Government of the Five African Regions

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation said South Africa continued to play a leading role in the unity and cohesion of the region and the continent whilst also significantly contributing to peace, security, humanitarian assistance and development activities at regional and continental level in both operational and strategical levels.
