Radamel Falcao responds to Pinto da Costa’s criticism over Atletico Madrid move
Radamel Falcao has played down criticism from Porto president Pinto da Costa over his decision to join Atletico Madrid.
The Colombia international signed for Atletico in the summer in a €40 million deal after helping Porto to a treble-winning season with 38 goals in all competitions.
Last month, Da Costa stated that Falcao’s move was ‘a step back’ in his career and noted the 25-year-old would struggle to succeed at the Vicente Calderon.
However, Falcao, who is the third highest scorer in the Liga charts with 14 goals, is not fazed by the opinion of Porto’s supremo.
“He has the right to say whatever he wants,” Falcao told Marca. “Joining Atletico was a goal of mine, a challenge and a dream.
“This club has an interesting project and time will tell [if it was a step back]. I will fight until the end for Atletico to win matches and titles.”
Atletico currently sit seventh in the Liga standings, two points adrift fourth-placed Levante, and Falcao is confident that finishing in the Champions League places is possible.
“We are doing well, that is for sure,” he added. “We are picking up points we could not collect before and we are performing at a high level.
“We had demonstrated all this at home, but not on the road. I think we have a good squad with the ability to face every difficult goal that we have ahead of us.”
