Nigeria: Stay Off Drugs, Ndanusa Warns Athletes

President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Sani Ndanusa has for the umpteenth time, warned Team Nigeria athletes to stay away from banned substances at this summer’s Olympics Games.

With about 154 days to the start of the Games in London, Ndanusa, who has been busy running the Nigerian project at home and abroad, told Sports Vanguard that the NOC in partnership with the National Sports Commission have set up eagle eye operatives, mandated to conduct drugs test on the country’s contingent before and during the Games.

Ndanusa admitted that athletes were often tempted to do drugs at major sporting competitions because of their desperation to win medals but warned that such desperation was injurious to the image of the country and the affected athletes.

He reiterated an earlier warning that athletes who test positive to banned substances would be banned, alongside their coaches.
