Kenya: ‘Kapsabet Express’ Back On Highway

Pamela Jelimo, selected to Kenya’s team to the World Indoor championships in Istanbul, recently made an impressive return to the track when she finished second in a 800m at the Pas de Calais meeting in Lievin, France a week ago.

“This is the strongest team we have selected since the inception of the world indoor championships. It is also the biggest team and we expect to win many medals,” Athletics Kenya spokesman Peter Angwenyi said.

Kenya finished 16th with two silver and two bronze medals at the last championships in Doha in 2010.

Since winning Kenya’s first women’s Olympic gold medal at the 2008 Games in Beijing, Jelimo has struggled with her fitness.

She recently competed at Athletics Kenya’s inaugural sprints and field events meeting at the Nyayo National Stadium, convincing selectors that she was fit enough for selection for the Istanbul championships.
