GRA revises Vehicle Income Tax (VIT) downwards after initial increment.

Haulage Truck Drivers could now heave a sigh of relief as the Ghana Revenue Authority; GRA has significantly revised downwards, the rate of their Vehicle Income Tax (VIT) stickers. This follows earlier agitations by the Ghana Association of Haulage Truck Drivers over the initial increment of more-than 300 percent.

Freda Badger is the District Head of the Domestic Tax Division of the GRA in Takoradi where the agitations began. She outlines to JOY BUSINESS, the revised rates following deliberations with executives of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council.

“We have for the different categories of these vehicles – between D1 and D10 For the D1’s category the rate was 35 cedis and it’s been revised to 25 cedis. D2 ( Kia 2 to 4 tonnes) has also been revised from 64 to 35 cedis whilst the D3 single-axle cargo is now 60 cedis” she noted.

The new rates for the other V.I.T stickers and tax -stamps however remain unchanged. She outlines measures put in place to cater for any refund as result of the downward review.

She explained “I do not think that there would be a refund but what I foresee is the payment of the difference to make up for the two quarters. So they should exercise patience and they should agitate for a refund as that is going to be difficult because remember we pay the monies into the consolidated fund”.
