GLO commences its number-reservation and plans to launch within a month’s time

GLO Mobile is now hoping to begin commercial operations in less than a month’s time after launching its number-reservation campaign today.

Prospective subscribers can now reserve their preferred numbers on the network via SMS to the code “023-00-10-100″. Each individual is entitled to a maximum of 5 numbers. One million numbers preceded by the network’s 0233 series have been made available for reservation.

The number reservation is free except for numbers with a repeated sequence christened “Vanity-Numbers”. These numbers which are about 4000 attract a premium fee of 100 and 200 cedis. Reserved numbers could be registered and activated in any of the company’s customer-service outlets and remain valid until 7-days after the company official launch.

The Chief Operating Officer, George Andah spoke to JOY BUSINESS at the launch of the “Reserve Your Number” campaign. He noted “We’ve started the launch. Between two to four weeks you should be able to talk on the Glo network. But at least now you can experience SMS from the network. The most important thing we want the customers to know is that its on a first come, first served basis and you don’t need to pay anything apart from the cost of the SMS” he added.

Meanwhile, GLO Mobile says it has so far invested over 750 million dollars in its operations in the country and is targeting a subscriber base of 10 million.
