Juvenal Ewono – No pressure to win

Juvenal Ewono

Equatorial Guinea’s captain says his side feels no pressure to win more games following their success over Libya and Senegal.

Juvenal Edjogo-Ewono led his team to their first ever African Cup of Nations win in the opening match of the tournament – a 1-0 win over Libya with a Javier Balboa goal.

“We are under no form of pressure. For the fans, they are still revelling in the first ever victory by their national team at the Africa Cup of Nations. It is a great experience for them,” he told CAFonline.com

“We want to continue winning to satisfy them.  We share a common dream with the fans of going past the group stage.”

Equatorial Guinea went on to make history by beating Senegal 2-1 on Wednesday night in Bata, sending the Teranga Lions out of the tournament.

“There has been a lot of surprises from the unfancied teams. Talk of Zambia, Burkina Faso, Sudan; they have given a good account of themselves,” the skipper said.

“This tells us that the competition is very tough and no team will be easy to beat. You have to give off your 100 percent in a game or be ready for a surprise.”
