Parliamentary Whips from Ghana and Kenya will be visiting the UK House of Commons from January 30, 2012, UK officials say.
The objective of the visit, according to the UK High Commission in Accra, will be to explore the role of the Whips within the three Parliamentary democracies – Ghana, Kenya and the UK.
“Specifically, they will deliberate on their roles and responsibilities and learn more about how the Executive can be held accountable. There will also be a round table discussion on Parliamentary ethics, gender issues and climate change,” said the Commission on its website.
Ghana will be represented by Majority Chief Whip, Honourable Gershon Kofi Gbediame; 1st Deputy Majority Whip, Hon. George Kuntu Blankson; 2nd Deputy Majority, Hon. Mary Salifu Boforo; Minority Chief Whip, Hon. Frederick Opare-Ansah; 1st Deputy Minority Whip, Hon. Benjamin Kofi Ayeh; and 2nd Deputy Minority Whip, Hon. Gifty Eugenia Kusi, it stated.
Kenya will be represented by Deputy Whips – Hon. Jeremiah Kioni and Hon. David Washiali.
The visit is being organised by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, the statement noted.
