Tripple honours for King Kanu!

Former Super Eagles captain, Nwankwo Kanu’s has been decorated with a high profile honour as an Ambassador of the well revered State of the Union (SOTU) coalition, to play a leading role in good governance of African Union nations.

Kanu will kick-start this new noble role for Africa renaissance during the forthcoming  Summit of SOTU in Mali, come July 2012.

The State of the Union (SOTU) project tracks and engages Governments and the African Union on the performance of African Governments against key democratic governance, economic and social rights and civil and political rights policy standards and instruments.

The former Arsenal striker was picked alongside Cameroun forward, Patrick Mboma ahead Ghanaian legend, Abedi Pele, as the top African football stars to lead separate teams that will take on each other at the Summit.

As an Ambassador of the SOTU coalition, Nwankwo Kanu is to champion the human rights and encourage social change and national development of policies of the member countries of the African Union, which Nigeria is an active member.

He is also to promote good governance and development as well as to use his personal fame and capacity to raise public awareness on such policies, as well as encourage other well-known personalities to do the same.

Aside the SOTU ambassadorial appointment during the week, more pleasant honours also poured in for the former Super Eagles captain, as his wife on Wednesday was delivered of a baby girl to add to his squad of two boys just as the Portsmouth of England forward was as well appointed as Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) Ambassador.

In a letter dated 25/10/2011 and signed by the acting President and Secretary of YSON, Alhaji Mohammed Nmah and Patrick Okpakuehre respectively, YSON not only named Kanu as its Ambassador, but also a member of its board of Trustees.

Executive Secretary of Kanu Heart Foundation, Pastor Onyebuchi Abia who confirmed the triple honours for the former Ajax of Amsterdam striker, further added that the foundation will also play crucial role during the SOTU Summit , saying it was in recognition of the Foundation’s humanitarian gesture that the it was included in the programme.
