PC Appiah Ofori Schooled On Running Mate Selection

The first Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Fred Oware, has rubbished Hon. PC Appiah Ofori’s assertion that Nana Akufo-Addo is suffering from indecision hence his delay in announcing a running mate for the December general elections.

Nana Addo on Tuesday swerved Ghanaians at the party’s crunch meeting where he was expected to announce the name of his vice presidential candidate highly speculated to be Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.

Hon. Ofori, who opposes the Nana Addo-Bawumia ticket, claimed his flagbearer is confused on his choice of running mate.

However, Mr. Oware damned the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa MP’s claims and said he should have known that Nana Addo is under no pressure to announce his choice of running mate.

“If he is familiar with the party’s arrangements last year after we went through the processes, we had given ourselves up to the end of the first quarter of this year for the flagbearer to come out with the name,” he told Citi News.

“Now, first quarter means end of March this year and we had scheduled the national council meeting which ought to be informed of the name so a lot of people were expecting that to happen; but as the chairman of the party explained, we have given him up to March and he is still consulting the National Council which has up to 100 people,” he explained.

Mr. Oware described Mr. Ofori’s comment as “unfortunate, unwarranted and uncalled for. ”
