Angola: Foreign Athletes Dominate Luanda International Meeting Competition

Luanda — Foreign athletes once again dominated the International Athletics Meeting of Luanda, also dubbed Demóstenes de Almeida, by winning last Monday the main races of the International Meeting, namely in the categories of 5.000, 3.000 and 1.500 metres in both sexes.

The competition that took place in Coqueiros stadium was organised by the Angolan Athletics Federation.

The 5.000 metre race was won by the representative of Zimbabwe, Tony Wamulwa, timing 13:49’76” minutes, followed by the Angolan Tiago Baptista, from Interclube team, 14:33′,32″ minutes, and Jari Munyaradzi (Zimbabwe).

In the 3.000 metre category the winner was the Ethiopian Tigabu Gebrmarym, timing 08:22’61 minutes, followed by the Tanzanian Rogata Stephen (08:23′,58″ minutes) and Isaiah Ondieici from Kenya (08:24′,10″ minutes).

For the female category, the Ethiopian Hwot Afalew ended up in the first position doing 09:29′,79″ minutes, followed by her compatriot Tigrst Kros (09:32″73) and the Kenyan Alice Mudjeri (09:40′,39″).

There was also the 1.500 metre race won by Bela Ynesh (Ethiopia) with 04:33′,14″ minutes, followed by Rehima Robele (Ethiopia) 04:33’15”, and Imabet Anthony, also from Ethiopia, with 04:25′,63″ minutes.

In the 1.500 metres males category, the Ethiopian Tesfaye Duieich, timing 03:48″33 minute, followed by Kidrono Menjo of Angola’s Kabuscorp team (03:48″65) and the Kenyal Micton Rotich (03:48″93).
