ACE MUSICIAN Charles Kwadwo Fosu aka Daddy Lumba is in tears as he has become the latest musician in the country to be hit by the piracy menace which is gradually destroying the music industry.
Lumba’s newest album, ‘Ko Hye Po’, whose promotion has begun in Kumasi, has been pirated by some people who want to make undue monies at the expense of the musician.
The ace musician, who looked disturbed, disclosed at a press conference in Kumasi last Saturday that some people had been arrested by the police in Kumasi for pirating his new album.
Lumba noted that the police, acting upon a tip off, arrested those involved in pirating his music at an undisclosed place in Kumasi, noting that investigations into the matter were still underway.
He said relations of those arrested for pirating his music had been frequenting his home, begging for an out of court settlement, but noted that he preferred that the matter be sent to court for the law to takes its course.
Lumba said piracy had for years been destroying the music industry as it had prevented several talented musicians like Rex Omar, who has the potential to release an album every year, from doing so for many years.
He said it was now time for all musicians and key stakeholders in the industry to unanimously declare war on piracy so as to save Ghana music from collapsing totally.
As a way of protecting his new album, Lumba said he had hired some people and police officers to arrest anyone that would try to pirate his album.
He said the collaborative work of his specially-trained people and the police officers led to the apprehension of those people in Kumasi, stressing that he would not stop until piracy was eventually eradicated from the country.
Lumba used the press conference to announce his confirmed engagements for the year.
He said he would be performing live at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi for the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on Sunday, December 11, at the Sunyani Centre for Culture, December 16 and the Miklin Hotel n Kumasi, December 24, 2011.
