Durbanites and COP17 delegates are in for an exciting end to the Durban Green Festival at the Green Hub as some of South Africa’s most popular entertainers and musicians are set to grace the stage on Thursday and Friday.

Thursday (8 December) will see the multi-talented and acclaimed Ellis Pearson performing his topical ‘Man up a tree’ theatre piece. Pearson’s piece, is hopeful to draw further attention to the environmental issues of climate change, re-greening and biodiversity. The remainder of Thursday’s programme will also include topical movies, poetry, drama, and storytelling.

Friday will have some of Durban and South Africa’s most popular musicians bring down the curtain on the Durban Green Festival.

The lineup includes (from 17h30) performances from DJ Wilson, Gangs of Ballet, Coals of Juniper, The La Els and Durban super-band City Bowl Mizers.

The Green Hub, a sideline event to COP17’s climate change talks, is a center of education and entertainment. It will feature the ‘My Green Home’ exhibition daily until 3rd January 2012. This exhibition is aimed at introducing people to green technologies and educating them about eco-friendly and sustainable living.

The My Green Home exhibition takes the form of an up market contemporary one bedroom house with one bathroom, an open plan living room and kitchen, as well as an indigenous garden and green house. The house will be made from innovative building materials, and will incorporate a variety of solutions to green ones home and contribute towards a sustainable existence.

Also at the Green Hub, the Durban Green Corridor offers an array of sporting activities including mountain bike, walking, birding, geocaching and canoe trails through the uMngeni Valley.

Gary Cullen of the eThekwini Municipality’s Economic Development Unit said: “…we urge all Durban locals to get down to the Green Hub and get involved in the Durban Green Festival.”
