Business activities yet to pick up in Lagos after Christmas

Lagos – (NAN) Business activities are still very low in some parts of Lagos four days after the Christmas festival.

A visit by a correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to Marina, Broad Street, Apongbon, CMS and Mushin areas of Lagos, revealed that many shops were yet to open for business.

NAN reports that most shops in the area were still under lock and key, while traffic was still very light in some of the areas visited.

A banker, working at one of the banks on the Island who pleaded anonymity, said that customers’ turnout was very low.

“Actually, it is normal for customers to be few because majority of them have travelled out of Lagos” he said.

Mr Busayo Adeola, another businessman on the Marina, said that this was due to the fact that many residents who travelled home for the Christmas celebration had not returned to Lagos.

“Business activities are expected to remain this way until people are back from their respective journeys,” he said.

Adeola also said that the turnout of customers had not been encouraging.

Mr Ayomide Bolarinwa, Branch Manager, Sweet Sensation, Ladipo Street, Mushin, said that sales had been low because many residents travelled to their home towns for the Christmas.

“We are prepared for a situation like this because the few days after long holiday is always like this,” he said.

Bolarinwa said that sales would bounce back to normal by next week when business activities would had picked up fully.

Mrs Bimbo Adeyemi, a business woman at Mushin, said that business activities had been low.

“Sales are very low now because most of our customers have traveled to their villages to celebrate the Christmas’’ she said.

Mr Peter Emmanuel, Branch Manager, AP Filling Station, Marina, said that the turnout of customers were still very low, hoping that with time it would improve.

Emmanuel said that the long Christmas holiday was responsible for the low turnout of customers in the filling stations. (NAN)
