Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew wants to carve a niche for himself and does not want comparison to the legendary status of his father.

The 22-year-old underlined his credentials as a huge talent with sublime and eye-catching performances for both club and country in 2011.

Many including German legend Franz ‘The Kaizer’ Beckenbauer has likened the ingenuity of the 2011 BBC African Footballer of the year to that of his father Abedi Pele.

It widely believed that the youngster is a direct carbon copy of the three-time African Footballer of the year and tipped for greatness by many pundits.

But the Black Stars winger wants to remain modest with his performance.

“I am nowhere close to what my Dad achieved and so I feel the good people must not compare me to him at all,” Ayew said

“He did a lot for both Ghana and Marseille but I just want to improve match after match, season after season and that is for me what is important.

“Every player wants to do well but I think the talk of comparing me to my Dad is well wide of the mark.”
