Barcelona want re-sign Oriol Romeu less than five months after allowing the midfielder to join Chelsea, according to Marca.

The Spain Under-21 international moved to Stamford Bridge in a deal worth €5 million but it was reported at the time that the Catalans retained the right to buy back the player for €10m at the end of the season, or for €15m in the summer of 2013.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas insisted earlier this week that no such agreement exists but it is reported otherwise, with Marca now claiming that Barca will enact their right to re-sign the player in June in order to fill the void left by the likely departure of Seydou Keita, who is being strongly linked with a move to Serie A.

Romeu made just one senior appearance during his time at Camp Nou but, after taking time to adjust to the Premier League, he has established himself as a key performer at the heart of Chelsea midfield of late.

Keita, meanwhile, has reportedly become increasingly frustrated by his failure to nail down a regular starting berth in the Barca side.

Starting last month and continuing all through January, Goal.com will publish extracts from Graham Hunter’s highly-anticipated book, ‘Barca: The Making of the Greatest Team in the World’. In the latest extract, he looks at Pep Guardiola’s early beginnings at Barca B in the Spanish third division ahead of his meteoric rise to world domination with the first team. Don’t miss it!.
