Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic has praised make-shift right-back Willard Katsande for his performance against Free State Stars.

With regular full-back Jimmy Tau suspended and Tlou Molekwane injured, Vermezovic was forced to get creative with that position.

He admits to trying a number of different options in training, before settling on Katsande, who is usually a defensive midfielder.

“We tried many combinations at training and we were going to play Lincoln [Zvasiya] but when we were forced to pull out Dominic Isaacs just two hours before the game we played Willard Katsande.

“I was pleased with his professionalism and he never put his foot wrong for the entire game,” Vermezovic told the club’s official website.

The Serbian coach also went on to praise the fighting spirit of his players in coming from behind to beat Stars 2-1 and finish the weekend just a point behind Absa Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

“I also want to praise the spirit in the team. This team is united behind one goal this season to win the championship. It is going to be a long road and now we are going to Durban to meet AmaZulu in a potential tough game but we will be taking it one game at a time.”
