Nigeria: Cashless Economy – Unity Bank to Deploy 3,000 POS

    As part of preparations ahead of migration to a cashless economy by 2012, Unity Bank Plc which now has 242 business offices across the country, would be deploying 1,000 Point of Sale Terminal (POS) by December 2011 with an additional 2,000 by the second phase of 2012.

    The bank has also added 100 ATMs, even as it has adopted the e- tranzact mobile banking application, rolled out master card and the Unity remit for all e-payments among others.

    This was disclosed yesterday by the bank’s senior executive, Effiong Attai Jr., while speaking at a sensitisation workshop on the new Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) cashless policy, organsied for staff of LEADERSHIP Newspapers by Unity Bank Plc.

    Attai who allayed fears of increased internet fraud entertained by Nigerians as they get set to migrate to the cashless society, said that risk and security measures have been greatly improved on to arrest cases of fraud.
