An elderly couple was attacked on their farm by men armed with knives and screwdrivers in Vredendal, Western Cape.
A Thulamel councillor appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for allegedly stabbing a former Robben Island political prisoner.
Major Mashudu Malelo said the ANC councillor, Mushoni Tshifhango, was released on bail of R1000 and the matter was postponed until December 22.
He was arrested on Monday.
Robben Island ANC veteran Alson Tshitahe was stabbed on Sunday, apparently in a fight over who should be the next African National Congress chairman in the province.
He survived the attack.
Malelo said a counter charge of assault was laid against Tshitahe. – Sapa
